AROUND THE STAND

First, Rickea Jackson delivered buzzer-beater magic in Los Angeles, lifting the Sparks to a wild 101 to 99 win over the New York Liberty. But the night turned grim early when Liberty star Breanna Stewart exited with a leg injury just minutes in. Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Cloud led a furious second-half push, but Jackson’s 24-point performance closed the door. One highlight. One heartbreak.

Meanwhile, the Yankees finally stopped the bleeding. After three straight losses, Ryan McMahon kicked off a four-run second inning that helped New York sneak past the Phillies 4 to 3. A sturdy bullpen and just enough clutch hitting gave the Bronx Bombers something they desperately needed: a reason to exhale. The AL East race? Still very much alive.

Out in Colorado, controversy found the Boebert family again. This time, Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son, Tyler, was cited for misdemeanor child abuse after briefly leaving her grandson unsupervised. No injuries. No removal. The congresswoman called it a miscommunication and said CPS had already cleared the case. But with her name in the headlines yet again, critics are sharpening their talking points.

Over in tech-land, Gwyneth Paltrow is moonlighting. The actress stepped in as a tongue-in-cheek temporary spokesperson for data firm Astronomer after a workplace scandal involving the CEO, the HR chief, and yes, a Coldplay concert. In a satirical promo video, Paltrow shrugged off the drama while plugging the platform. Call it crisis PR or just classic Gwyneth.

And finally, on the roads of France, Tadej Pogačar rode into cycling history. The Slovenian star clinched his fourth Tour de France title, leaving rival Jonas Vingegaard more than four minutes behind and the rest of the field in the dust. Climbs that once haunted him — Ventoux, Hautacam, Col de la Loze — were conquered with ease this time. The peloton had flashes of new blood, but Pogačar remains the one to beat.
