First, Jaguars kicker Cam Little stunned fans by nailing a 70-yard field goal in a preseason game, the longest ever in any football game. But don’t expect it to show up in the official NFL record books. Unlike previous long kicks that caught a lucky breeze or benefitted from fancy equipment, Little’s boot was pure leg power, no tricks involved.
Over in the WNBA, A’ja Wilson made history by becoming the first player to put up a 30-point, 20-rebound double-double. Her 32 points and 20 boards helped the Las Vegas Aces edge out the Connecticut Sun 94-86. Coach Becky Hammon and teammates showered Wilson with praise, calling her performance one of the best they had ever seen this season.
On a different note, David Justice found himself in hot water after revealing his marriage to Halle Berry ended partly because she “didn’t cook, didn’t clean, didn’t seem motherly.” Fans quickly called the comments outdated and tone-deaf. Justice later softened his stance, admitting that immaturity and poor communication were big factors and therapy might have saved the relationship.
In a more romantic headline, Cristiano Ronaldo popped the question to Georgina Rodriguez with a dazzling diamond ring after nearly ten years together. The couple, who met in 2016 and share children, shared the engagement news on Instagram Monday, sparking excitement among fans worldwide.
And finally, undefeated former welterweight champ Jaron "Boots" Ennis is stepping up to super welterweight for the first time. He will face Uisma Lima in a WBA title eliminator October 11 in Philadelphia. Ennis is chasing fresh titles and top contenders as Terence Crawford prepares to vacate the WBA belt and move up in weight.
